Wellbeing

Introduction to Wellbeing Policies

At Faughart CNS, the wellbeing of our pupils is at the heart of our mission. Our school policies are designed to create a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment that nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and digital development of every child. By promoting holistic wellbeing, we aim to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions, build positive relationships, and lead healthy, active lives.

On this page, you will find detailed information about our Social, Personal, and Health Education (SPHE) Plan, including the Stay Safe Programme and Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Policy. Additionally, our Physical Education (PE) Policy highlights our commitment to fostering a lifelong love of physical activity. Each of these policies has been carefully developed, reviewed, and updated with input from staff, parents, and the Board of Management, ensuring they reflect the needs of our school community.

Explore the sections below to learn more about how these policies support the wellbeing of our pupils.

SPHE

Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) Plan

In Faughart CNS, we provide a foundation that will inform the child’s actions and decisions. SPHE is spiral in nature we will cover the content at each level throughout the school over a two year period.

The SPHE policy was reviewed by staff and parents in September 2022 and ratified by the Board of Management on September 13th 2022.

From September to November 2024, the SPHE policy underwent a comprehensive review involving all stakeholders. As part of this review, the time allocation for SPHE was updated to align with the wellbeing time allocation specified in the Primary Curriculum Framework. Additionally, teachers identified digital citizenship as a key priority. A Digital Citizenship Plan, detailing monthly lesson topics, objectives, and resources to promote responsible digital engagement for pupils from 1st to 6th class, was developed and is included as Appendix B in this updated SPHE policy.
