  • This policy was initially formulated as a result of a collaborative approach between the Principal and Staff in 2022-2023 due to increased enrolment, and therefore this policy is considered appropriate at this time of expansion.
  • On review of this policy in March 2024, our pupil numbers are increasing, and enrolment is not even in all classes. Therefore we foresee the necessity to add a section on allocation of split classes in this policy, should the need arise in the future.

Faughart Community National School aims to protect the well-being of its students and staff by providing a safe and nurturing environment at all times as outlined in our school’s mission statement. The Board of Management, through the Principal, has drawn up a Critical Incident Management Plan as one element of the school’s policies and plans.
The policy was created in August 2018, and reviewed on:
  • March 2021
  • April 2022
  • April 2023
  • January 2024

Managing Health and Safety at our School is an ongoing activity throughout the year. This Safety Statement is a live written document which provides details of how we manage health, safety and welfare at our school. This Safety Statement along with our Risk Assessments form the basis of our Safety Management System.
The policy was reviewed in March 2021, and reviewed on;
  • March 2022 using the ETBi template and ratified on 5th April 2022

In Faughart CNS, we provide a foundation that will inform the child’s actions and decisions. SPHE is spiral in nature we will cover the content at each level throughout the school over a two year period.

The SPHE policy was reviewed by staff and parents in September 2022 and ratified by the Board of Management on September 13th 2022.

From September to November 2024, the SPHE policy underwent a comprehensive review involving all stakeholders. As part of this review, the time allocation for SPHE was updated to align with the wellbeing time allocation specified in the Primary Curriculum Framework. Additionally, teachers identified digital citizenship as a key priority. A Digital Citizenship Plan, detailing monthly lesson topics, objectives, and resources to promote responsible digital engagement for pupils from 1st to 6th class, was developed and is included as Appendix B in this updated SPHE policy.
