This document outlines the school’s policy on permitted usage of the internet. The policy applies to all internet users in Faughart CNS and all methods of internet access, including desktop computers, laptop computers, mobile telephony, tablets and other devices capable of accessing the internet.
The policy was updated in October 2020 to include guidelines on the use of the internet while learning from home.
The policy was updated in November 2023 to specifically exclude the pupil use of personal mobile phones in school or on the school bus.
This policy was reviewed in November 2024 following extensive discussions during two Parents’ Association meetings and staff meetings. The importance of prohibiting pupil use of personal mobile phones within the school premises or on the school bus was reaffirmed.
2025-2026
A full review of this policy was undertaken during the 2025–2026 school year. A new policy was developed in line with Webwise guidelines.
Pupil-friendly versions of the policy were created and will be used as part of the school’s Digital Citizenship lessons each September. Signed copies will also be included in pupils’ homework diaries.
For the current school year, Digital Citizenship lessons based on our AUP will take place across all classes during Internet Safety Day in February.
The updated policy and accompanying documents were formally ratified on 13th January 2026.
