Welcome to our School Website

Thursday 30 August 2018 was a special day for the young people of Faughart and the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) as Faughart Community National School opened its doors to welcome its pupils for the 2018/2019 academic year.

In July 2018, the Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton, announced that a Community National School would open, under the patronage of LMETB, in time for September on the site of the former Scoil Naisiunta Bhríghde, Faughart. On Thursday 30 August pupils of the school and their parents/ guardians were welcomed by Principal, Ms. Jacqui Mc Cusker and teaching staff Mr. Andreu D’Arcy and Ms. Saoirse Mc Dermott.

Faughart Community National School

Faughart Community National School (CNS), under the patronage of Louth and Meath Education Training Board, stands out as the sole Community National School in Co. Louth, offering multidenominational education in the area. Established in 2018 with a modest enrolment of only 16 pupils initially, it has since blossomed into a vibrant community of 90 students, led by a dedicated principal and a team of four dynamic teachers and three special education needs assistants. In addition, the school provides convenient pre-school and after-school service on-site.

Faughart CNS seized the opportunity to embrace 21st-century teaching practices and learning opportunities, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration as priority areas. The explicit teaching of technical literacy and advanced computer skills has been seamlessly integrated into the curriculum, resulting in students who exude confidence and motivation in their pursuit of knowledge. The school’s emblem mirrors its values, emphasizing well-being, creativity, community, and respect, which are in harmony with the core values of Excellence in Education, Care, Respect, Equality, and Community upheld by the ETB ethos.

Pupils also have the privilege of engaging with the Goodness Me, Goodness You! multi-belief and values education curriculum, exploring identity, values, philosophy, and multi-denominational religious education through a multi-disciplinary framework. Furthermore, the school’s unique location at the foot of Faughart Hill in north County Louth, proudly placed in Ireland’s Ancient East, adds a rich layer of history and culture to the educational experience. With historical landmarks and its connections to St. Brigid, the Hill of Faughart offers an extraordinary backdrop for learning, reflecting the deep roots of Irish heritage. Through this unique setting and the dedicated efforts of its teachers and staff, the school provides a comprehensive and modern curriculum that ensures students receive a well-rounded and enriching education.
